CELEBRITY DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: GHITA BY ALEXIS PHIFER

Alexis Phifer is not only arm candy. In fact, she proved this with the premiere of her Spring 2008 Ghita runway show last week.

Ghita was actually launched in 2005 but, Alexis certainly has been designing way before being with the Louis Vuitton Don. Graduating from FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in California, Phifer clearly has always had her mind set on creating a high fashion line of her own.

Ghita, which refers to a gem or means “pearl of the sea” is a collection full of fun yet, fashionable party dresses. Alexis’s inspiration is said to be a futuristic touch to the 80′s and is very evident in her 2008 Spring line. Socialites such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton have already been seen in the threads, and we can probably expect to see more of it in the future…

  3. ICU2

    Wow those dresses are nice.

  4. ICU2

her website is nice but I wish there was a feature to zoom on the clothing and I’m not feeling the music. As I said before her clothes are nice, reminds me of the Roman times.

  5. laNA Bpt

Her designs are whack she needs a hungry designer behind her. These clearly lack true TASTE and talent.,unless these are going into Target and H&M then they would be ok.

  6. I think they balance eachother out, nicely. I am so happy to see that Kanye got himself a strong and intelligent Black woman.

  7. BRAD

WOW. I LUV IT! IT’S FLIRTY, BUT NOT RAUNCHY!!! IT STILL HAS A SOHPHISTICATED YET MODERN TOUCH. SHE IS DFENITELY ON HER WAY!

  8. Her clothing looks GREAT! She looks GREAT! Kanye, you best not mess this one UP!

  9. knockkey

Congradulation Alexis hard work and determination paid off. Live your dream future Mrs. West.

  10. Avanti

Nice, really. It looks classy and she seems that she is really talented, this is not a fluke!

  11. TANISHA

i was there _at the end of the show alexis tripped and fell everyone laughed including kanye she gave a scorned look as she received flowers from the runway_it was a mess!!!!

  12. your baby's daddy #1 pick

@ 9 stop hating it’s not flattering…@ 15 plz tell me your joking because that is “hilar” if it happened.

  13. cosign @ #16

who the hell is #9, heidi klum?

#15 STOP it, i woulda DIED!

but on the real, she’s (alexis) a very cute young lady…hey @ least she doin SOMETHING

  14. RICKY BOI

kanye said she could be his black kate moss

  15. brittany

personally these arent my style except the first dress i see myself rocking it…but hey im glad to see her doing her the damn thing…i wonder how much these cost???

  16. leah27

Good for her but I still think Ms. Alexis is a gold digger. Just one with a plan. Her former husband/baby daddy is veteran NFL player Roman Phifer(look him up). He played in the NFL a LONG time so his dollars were and probably still are also LONG. I know he doesn’t have Kanye West money but that Negro is by no means broke! It seems when you’ve had one balla its easier to get another balla. I ain’t made at her though.

  17. J.SCOTT FAN

    @ 20

I have that same feeling too. But wasn’t she with Kanye before he was “famous” and before the crash? Someone do the research.

  18. SO SHE GETS DUDES THAT HAVE THEIR OWN MONEY….SO SHE HAS TO BE A GOLDIGGER? SHE’S DOING HER OWN THING…SO OF COURSE SHE’S GOING TO ATTRACT THOSE WHO ARE DOING THEIR THING TOO. THINK ABOUT IT…

  19. LOL @ Somebody do research! She is too damn Beautiful, Her Clothes are Nice! I know she is enjoying life

  20. Lula Pear

I can’t deal with thumbnails and clicking and enlarging and waiting so I won’t even try to view her entire collection… but I think it’s nice…the quality, at least… I mean, the designs for Spring and those from the Fall collection seem to be of two totally different design philosophies…but, as I said, didn’t take time to see the entire collection… I’m going back and forth in my mind about the dress she’s wearing…I like it, in both colors…but the detailing, the little plastic-like thing at the neck, seems a bit forced… I don’t know…it’s like literally future meets sophistication…like she’s trying to blend the two and takes such a literal, stark route because she didn’t/wouldn’t/couldn’t think it through….

  21. PRETTY BROWN

I’m pleasantly surprised with her designs!! They look really edgy yet wearable!!

  22. queenie

I like most of the dresses. I hater her new Remy do.

  23. ms. dyme

The girl is obviously talented. I think she has a bright future in fashion and as a fashion designer hopefully she will be able to create a bigger name for herself under that, something other than being kanye’s girl.

  24. Greatestloveofall

Alexis is a beautiful and talented young woman, she could model those great clothes herself. But SMH for choosing a bunch of boney pale ass snow bunnies to model. They skinny asses do no justice to those clothes, which the curves of black or Latina models would!

  25. MS. KATRINA

Alexis is doing her thang!!!! I’m glad to see a black man with a woman (black or white) that’s more than just “cute”

  26. Candace

Congrats to Alexis for the new line, everything looks nice. But seriously, are those krimps in her hair??? Ye, get ya girl a hair stylist asap… I don’t ever want to see her hair looking like that again.

  27. Nottigrl01

I’m not hating, I just think her style is a little over-rated simply because she’s Kayne’s fiance. The dresses pictured above from the fall collection are not sexy, or classy. They look like something that was pulled from the back of my great-grandmother’s closet. Absolutely TOO much fabric. The only dress that I think is somewhat decent to wear is the first one pictured above (white, gray, and green strapless number). I’m in love with fashion and honestly I’ve seen better.
SOOO, if Alexis or Kayne reads this, just take it as constructive criticism.
She really should step her game up……

  28. BRWNCRAYOLA

I like the longer dresses to cover up my thunder thighs. Wonder what the price tag looking like…

  29. Concreteloop is sucking up to kanye

Concreteloop , yall are sucking up to Kanye big time because you know he reads the blog . Hes girlfriend is not even relevant but yall are beginning to post the hell out of her clothing. Stop it dammit !!!! Every other post is Kanye lately . and its not because he’s hot right now either because 50 is hot too and you hardly ever post anything about him . this is becoming a fan site . stop sucking up!!!!

  30. Mrs. AKA

Nice collection. Its easy, elegant, and chic. I love the soft colors especially that one sleeve roche’ looking dress. The material seems to flow upon movement… Even though I am petite. I could never fit her clothing. It seems to be geared for the size 2,4, and 6 figure.

  31. JoRo

    I like that white dress.

  32. IAMDARKAQUA

its cool…that’s all i can give her right now.

  33. the real cookie

Um, these clothes are tired. The look like something from the racks of Bebe.

  34. msweb

I THINK HER DRESS ARE OK, NOT MY TYPICAL STYLE THOUGH
    I WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS

  35. msweb

    IM NOT IMPRESSED!
I THINK HER DRESSES ARE OK, NOT MY TYPICAL STYLE THOUGH

I STILL WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS

  36. Ninagirl

The dresses look lame to me. Sorry.

  37. candi

why does it have to be hating if the dresses do not appeal to someone’s taste? personally i don’t care for the designs, but i am glad to see a black woman doing her thing and having her own collection. i wish her much success. i am quite tired of hearing about her and kanye though.

  38. ALWAYS A HATER

Is it that the dressed don’t appeal to you ladies because 99% of y’all broads commenting couldn’t fit into any of the clothes? Perhaps some of the cotoure outfits of the racks at DRESS BARN would suit all you bitter tricks better. :)

  39. ToniChilds

Interesting perspective Alexis, ~ From what I see, it looks very fresh

  40. SweetThang729

Go Lexis!!!!!!!! Put an end to all the golddiggers and supaheads

  41. Tealeaf

I think She is average pretty and her clothes don’t standout, plus she is dating a DL singer….

  42. DK24

GOOD FOR HER . GO ALEXIS.

  43. Toodles

The looks on the bottom are cool…but I was not feeling her looks. There is also a bunch more on stainedcouture.com

I actually think Jlos Just Sweet had cuter stuff.

I can fit the looks but they are just not my style…Alexis always looks good herself but not feeling the fits :(

  44. dctrinigyal

KANYE FIANCE IS BEAUTIFUL BUT SHE DOESNT DESERVE TO BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT. IF SHE WASNT WITH KANYE, SHE WOULD BE NOTHING. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. IF I WASNT A REGULAR ON HER…I WOULDNT HAVE KNOWN WHO SHE WAS.

  45. oooh finally some pics! i like the structured dresses but the second group have a very 70s feel that has been done and done. i look forward to seeing more from her.

  46. GHETTO ICE-CREAM

the clothes aight’.they ain’t all that, but they look classy so…

  47. RealStateofMind

I don’t know Alexis personally, but she is in fact a stand up woman. I do ,however, know some of her close family personally. She really doesn’t need Kanye’s money. It doesn’t hurt i’m sure, but she does well without it. She is a very intelligent and talented woman, i don’t think she is a gold digger at all. But once your are in that fame and fortune Circle, you usually stay in that arena.

  48. daintii

    Lovin’ that Gold Dress!

  49. I like, I like…go ‘head Alexis, can we say talented;-)?

  50. Softest Place On Earth

Her clothes are nice, but I rarely wear dresses.

  51. jscene

Love this line! These clothes are ultra feminine, classy, chic, and flirty. Seems like when you put one of the dresses on, you’d want to go skipping down the street in your heels. When you see someone in these dresses, you know you’re looking at a woman. This line looks fun and whoever buys are a definite girly girl. The skinny minnies like myself would rock the hell outta these clothes.

    Me definitely likes!

  52. jscene

FOR ALL THE DUMMIES THAT ARE SAYING OBVIOUS DUMB SHIT LIKE: WHY IS KANYE’S GIRL IN THE SPOTLIGHT? SHE’S NOT RELEVANT….BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

UM, EXCUSE ME, AT LAST CHECK, YOU DIDN’T NECESSARY HAVE TO BE A CELEBRITY TO BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT, YOU COULD BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT BECAUSE SOME OTHER EXTRAORDINARY ACCOMPLISHMENT OR DEED…AND SHE IS A CELEBRITY IN HER OWN RITE…..HOW MANY OF US ON HERE DOES PARIS HILTON, LINDSAY LOHAN, AND OTHER SOCIALITES CALL FOR A DAMN DRESS. AND HOW MANY YOUNG BLACK WOMEN DO YOU KNOW WHO HAVE THEIR OWN PREMIERE, HIGH FASHION CLOTHING LINE??? SHE IS NOT A EVERYDAY AVERAGE ORDINARY CHICK…IN FACT, MOST OF THE CELEBRITIES WITH THEIR OWN CLOTHING LINE DID NOT ACTUALLY GO TO SCHOOL FOR THIS, THEY WORK WITH A “REAL DESIGNER”, LIKE ALEXIS, TO COME UP WITH REAL DESIGNS, AND THEN THEY SIMPLY PUT THEIR NAME ON IT TO SELL IT. I.E. J-LO, BEYONCE, AND COUNTLESS OTHERS. THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE OF HOW TO ACTUALLY DESIGN, SKETCH, AND SOW A DRESS, PANT, WHAT THE FUCK EVER ELSE……THEY RELY ON SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY DOES THIS FOR A LIVING. AND SADLY, THAT PERSON NEVER GET THE PRAISE THEY DESERVE.

THE FACT THAT SOME CELEBRITIES HAVE CONTACTED HER ABOUT HER CLOTHES MAKES HER CELEBRITY IN SOME WAY SHAPE OR FORM….
